The President of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema has today officially opened the 17th session of the Association of Non-aligned Teachers Union of Southern Africa (ANTUSA) Festival games in Livingstone.
The festival games have drawn teacher member unions from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and South Africa.
In his speech the President said the government values education and will ensure that more infrastructure development is undertaken to create a conducive environment for education for both learners and teachers.
He appreciated the great work teachers are doing in transforming the lives of children through dedicated teaching.
He mentioned that in order to support teachers and safeguard the introduced free education, the government will make free education law.
He advised the Teacher Unions to collaborate with each other in the Country to achieve greater things for the pupils and teachers and to enhance social economic development in the country.
And the Basic Education Teachers Unions of Zambia (BETUZ) General Secretary, Mr. Henry Sinkala thanked the President for the support his government has placed on education.
Mr. Sinkala said employing more than 30 thousand teachers, introducing free education, school feeding programme and the various bursary schemes for tertiary education is not a mean achieve.
He said the Union will support the President for the good works he is doing in the education sector.
