LIVINGSTONE CITY COUNCIL COMMEMORATES 2025 AFRICA DECENTRALISATION AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT DAY

Livingstone City Council has joined the rest of the continent in commemorating the 2025 Africa Decentralisation and Local Development Day under the theme “Building resilient communities through inclusive decentralisation and equitable development.”

The Road Show took place in Kasiya Ward, Daka Munyama Zone and brought together community members and council officials.

The commemoration was brought to life by Tusole Drama Group, whose sketch and traditional dances creatively demonstrated what decentralisation means and the range of services LCC offers to the public.

Karen Kauseni, the Town Planner and a member of the Devolution Taskforce, spoke on devolution, explaining how some departments that were previously under central government are now devolved to the Council, bringing services closer to the people.

She also pointed out that Decentralisation is about ‘Power to the People’ adding that, “Communities have now been given the power to decide the kind of development they want to see in their areas, unlike in the past when such decisions were made for them by people on top.”

Council officers from various departments engaged with residents, providing information on key services and development initiatives offered by the Council.

CDF was a major highlight, with reminders that applications were open for 2026 projects, grants, and scholarships for skills training and secondary school boarding education.
