The commissioning of the two projects, a borehole and the installed tank and a rehabilitated ablution block at Palm Grove primary school undertaken using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a total cost K297, 500.00, has brought so much delight to not only the pupils and teachers but to Shungu ward at large.
The Palm Grove primary school head teacher, Lenby Simuchembo stated that the school had been looking forward to adequate clean water for quite some time because the water situation was erratic and was pleased to finally witness the borehole with its tank being commissioned and ready for use.
Mr Simuchembo also expressed happiness at the completion of the rehabilitation of an ablution block which became a source of concern to the school as it had become a risk to the lives of the pupils due to the leakages, damaged cisterns and cracked walls.
He said the rehabilitation of the toilets and the assured 24 hour water supply was a motivation to the pupils and the staff at the school stating that the development would, to some extent improve the concentration of pupils on school work thereby improving the results.
And Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, indicated that CDF had come to stay and that it would improve the lives of the citizens in many aspects ranging from school infrastructure, water reticulation, construction of roads, healthy facilities and many others.
He encouraged the school management to be responsible and take care of the borehole and the rehabilitated ablution block.
After handing over the borehole and the ablution block to the school, he planted a tree at the school frontage to mitigate the effect of climate change.
