Livingstone City Mayor, Constance Muleabai is delighted that the City has been blessed with seven Christmas babies. The seven babies were born from three health facilities. Four were recorded at Livingstone University Teaching Hospital out of which two were boys and the other two were girls.
Meanwhile Libuyu Health Centre recorded one boy and one girl and Maramba Clinic had one boy.
During the presentation of hampers, the Mayor advised mothers to take care of the newly born babies as they were a blessing from God.
The Mayor was happy that Libuyu health Centre also recorded Christmas babies as the Health Centre had not recorded Christmas babies for the past two years.
Ms Muleabai was however disappointed that one of the mothers was a grade 10 pupil aged 16 years which was a source of concern as that would affect her education. She advised the girl to go back to school after her child grew to some age.
The Mayor urged girl children to focus on education before indulging into having children that they could not take care of. She said having children at a tender age also affected their health as their bodies had not yet matured and prepared for child bearing.
Ms Muleabai wished the babies a good health and urged their mothers who were not in gainful employment to form cooperatives and apply for CDF empowerment grants in order to venture into businesses to sustain their families.
And she advised Livingstone residents to be productive during the festival season so as not to backslide economically in the aftermath of the celebrations.
Meanwhile Dr Edwin Kashika thanked the Mayor for her gesture as she has always been during the festival season in respect with Christmas day. He said the district was still expecting two more babies during the course of the day from two mothers who were still in labour.
